Two times, soldiers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) tried to kill Bikenge. And two times, he escaped to continue the work God has called him to do — translating Scripture for his own people, the Omi.
Bikenge’s story and his commitment to help others meet Jesus through God’s translated Word is truly inspiring. It’s a reminder that when God calls us to do something, we must be faithful to obey. Often that obedience requires a deep trust that God will watch over us every step of the way, even in the face of imminent danger like Bikenge experienced. God is always faithful; it’s our choice to decide if we will trust Him to be faithful, as He promises.
God also expresses His faithfulness through partners like you who come alongside the work of Bible translation to provide funding and prayer so that more people can encounter Jesus through Scripture in a language and format they clearly understand. Thank you for your recent gift to ensure just that! Your passion for Scripture and your generosity are equipping Bible translators like Bikenge to obey God’s calling on their lives.
Today you have an opportunity to help even more people in the DRC and around the world who are still waiting for God’s Word in their language. So many of these people have lived through years of heartbreaking conflict in their country and long for the comfort and hope that comes from God through His Word.
But God is on the move in the DRC, and you can empower and equip more Bible translation teams working to translate Scripture! Your gift will help:
- Establish and train language committees to manage translation projects.
- Support local translation teams.
- Develop Bible translation plans based on community needs.
When people encounter Jesus through Scripture, individual lives — and even entire communities and countries — can be transformed. That’s our prayer for people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: that everyone will know the comfort of God through His Word. 2 Corinthians 1:4 reminds us, “[God] comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us” (NLT).
You’re invited to continue partnering in the work God is doing globally by helping provide Scripture to those who are longing for His comforting words of hope and strength. May we all be faithful to obey His call to make His name known among the nations!
