Anik lives with a difficult illness. This makes it challenging for him to earn the money that his family needs, causing them to struggle financially. “There was always some kind of sadness in my house,” he said.

Another family who lives near Anik also experienced financial challenges, but he noticed that there was something different about them: They were happy. And they weren’t just happy — they were joyful. If Anik didn’t know better, he would think they lacked nothing at all.

Every Sunday, Anik could hear snippets of this family’s joyful worship and heartfelt prayers coming from their house. When he listened closely, he realized they were praying for the happiness and peace of their neighbors.

Amazed by their kind prayers, Anik asked his neighbors to teach him about the God they praised. They shared the greatest resource they have with him: Scripture. Since it is written in Anik’s language, he could clearly understand its message. He was particularly moved as he read about Jesus’ loving sacrifice on the cross.

Soon, Anik put his faith in Christ and, one after another, his family members did the same. Their commitment gave Anik and his family the joy they lacked before. “Today, we never call ourselves poor because the love of the Lord God is with us,” Anik said.

God’s Word changes hearts. When Anik and his family experienced the power of Scripture in their language, their lives were completely transformed and they received God’s joy and peace.
