There are at least 380 known sign languages in the world and the Bible has been translated completely into just one of those sign languages: American Sign Language. This is one of the reasons that less than 2% of the world’s 70 million Deaf people have been reached by the gospel.

Katerina* is Deaf and she relies on the sign language used in her Eurasian community to communicate. Sign language is visual, so in order for Scripture to be in a format that resonates with Katerina, it needs to be translated into a video format.

Praise God because He is present and active around the world and He’s working through Wycliffe, our global partners and generous donors like you to bring His Word to Deaf communities — including Katerina’s community in Eurasia. So far, a team has translated and recorded video Scripture, church prayers and teaching. These videos are touching the lives of Deaf people in a deep way, and Katerina is one of those people!

“Thanks to [the translation] work, I have become more aware of how to pray properly,” Katerina signed. “[The] translations have helped me to see a clearer picture and realize what the prayers are about. Before I watched [the] translations, reading prayers in my head … was like hieroglyphics. It was hard to understand,” she shared.
