Bryan and Rachel started out with Wycliffe in Tanzania as language surveyors, assessing the language situation in different areas of the country through gathering, recording, and analyzing linguistic data. Survey is an essential step in the Bible translation process.

 

Since 2010, Bryan has served in a support role: teaching History, Geography, Bible and English at Christian International schools, first in Tanzania then in Cameroon. Teaching at Rain Forest International School in Yaounde, Cameroon serves children of Wycliffe families involved in both translation and various other roles.

 

Whether on field assignment or home assignment, God continues to open up opportunities for the Smith's to have a spiritual and educational impact on the next generation. While on home assignment, Bryan will help at JAARS in NC until the Smith's return to Africa. He will oversee pre-field and home assignment “training” for Missionary Kids while their parents go through the aviation program, resulting in the whole family being well-trained, ready for overseas service, and cared for.
