Jim and Barbe are thankful for all who have prayed for them and helped in their support.

They went to Brasilia with Wycliffe in 1979 because they wanted to help people get the Bible in their language. Jim was loaned to the American School of Brasilia for 6 years, teaching and making education more affordable for the children of translators. Barbe was librarian for the linguistic libraries and assistant to the hostess in housing and hospitality.

Then Jim helped translators with computers, did pre-typsetting checks and typesetting of three New Testaments after their translators had spent over 30 years learning the language and culture, teaching the people how to read and write in their language, and translating the Bible with the people’s help into languages that didn’t have scripture.

Jim and Barbe came to JAARS in 1992 when their children, Eric and Melissa, were in college. Jim put Bibles/New Testaments in about 30 languages and some commentaries onto the Translator’s Workplace. This gives translators a computer library of helps. Barbe worked as the teacher for 2-year-olds, the assistant teacher for 4-year-olds, and library assistant in the JAARS family library.

Jim wrote the Dramatizer program to help mark scripture for audio-dramatized recording. Eventually, this data was used by our colleagues to make Glyssen. Jim and Barbe were advisors. Glyssen software creates scripts which are used to record audio dramatized scriptures.

Jim likes difficult problems, but He asks the Lord’s help. Jim has enjoyed putting dictionaries into dictionary aware software. He appreciated God giving him wisdom on how to put dictionaries on the internet.
