How does Wycliffe work?

God is moving around the world, and today Bible translation is accelerating like it never has before. Our desire is to follow where God is leading and partner with the local church in sustainable, church-led Bible translation programs that lead to transformation in their communities.

We don’t do missions on our own, and we don’t go into situations as experts with all the answers. We work in humble, collaborative teams that value diversity and are dedicated to making sure everyone feels heard, included and knows they belong.

We’re excited about innovation and creativity, and staying on the cutting edge of development to best support our global partners. As an organization, we’re constantly flexing and adapting to a changing global environment so God’s Word can most effectively impact the hearts and minds of people waiting to access it in their own languages.

What benefits and opportunities does Wycliffe provide?

One of our key values is loving people. Wycliffe staff work around the world — from small villages to big cities — in hybrid, in-person and fully remote environments. To best care for our staff and enable them to thrive wherever God invites them, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Medical, dental, vision and life insurance options for staff and their eligible immediate family members.
  • Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • 403b retirement savings matching.
  • Paid vacation time.
  • Paid sick time.
  • 10+ paid holidays.
  • Short-term disability pay.
  • Flexible work arrangements and infants in the workplace for most positions.
  • Regular spiritual development, worship, prayer, community gatherings and connection opportunities for all staff in all locations.
  • Wycliffe’s headquarters in Orlando, Florida features a serene walking path around a small lake, local events and hybrid work arrangements for most positions.
  • Ongoing career development, internal mobility and educational opportunities for professional growth.
  • Access to resources and counseling for mental health care, children’s educational needs and future planning.
  • Extensive training for cross-cultural assignments, as well as extra support during early years and in transitions to and from assignment locations.
How does a missionary’s salary work, and what is partnership development?

Most Wycliffe missionaries receive a non-traditional salary. It comes from the gifts given in preference for their ministry by a team of financial partners that includes friends, family, churches and other groups. We call this “partnership development,” and we provide extensive training and resources as you build your financial and prayer partnership team.

Non-traditional salaries are needs-based, determined by factors of housing and personal expenses based on geographic location, dependents and their ages, retirement savings, ministry expenses and taxes. Although salaries vary significantly and it’s not possible to provide an exact number, a typical non-traditional salary for a missionary household is $42,600 to $80,982 annually. These salaries do not include your partnership-raised funds for health insurance, worker’s compensation insurance or Wycliffe assessment.

We know that moving from a traditional salary to a faith-based partnership team can be stressful and overwhelming. But you’re not alone! We want to come alongside you in this journey and help equip and encourage you as you see God do amazing things.

What is a member?

A “member” is a Wycliffe staff person whose salary comes from partnership development, or gifts given in preference for their ministry by a team of financial partners that includes friends, family, churches and other groups. This is what some people think of as the traditional “missionary.”

What are the characteristics of people who thrive working at Wycliffe?

We are a community that is unafraid to follow God into challenging spaces with open hands, ready to respond to what He is doing. This takes courage, humility, flexibility and collaboration. Check out our four main principles of serving and thriving at Wycliffe.

  • Stay rooted.
At our heart, we’re joined by one central belief: No one should still be waiting for access to God’s Word. This work can be spiritually challenging, so you’ll need to stay anchored in God’s Word and committed to your faith as you contribute to a mission that has eternal impact.
  • Venture together.
Joining a global community means everyone must eagerly embrace diversity across generations, cultures and backgrounds. This can be messy at times and requires a willingness to pause and humbly listen to others. But as you rely on and learn from one another, you’ll develop a community where you can belong.
  • Choose Excellence.
We believe this is more than just a job, and we’re always looking ahead to join the adventure God has planned for us. Here you’ll be challenged to pursue excellence with humility, creativity and innovation and in return, you’ll get opportunities to expand your reach and impact.
  • Grow Boldly.
Change is embedded in Wycliffe’s DNA. It takes strength and commitment to navigate the complexities of an organization responding to the needs of the global Church. To thrive here, you’ll need to be a lifelong, agile learner, and able to face challenges with determination, creativity and skill. We’ll come alongside you to prioritize your emotional, mental and spiritual health so you can grow into the person God wants you to be.
I'm not a Bible translator or a linguist. Do you still have a need for me in Wycliffe?

Yes! We have a wide range of roles that are critical to supporting Bible translation. From managers and administrators to writers, IT personnel, accountants, lawyers and more, God is using all sorts of jobs, skills and experiences to advance His Word around the world. Explore critical roles on our website! Or check out even more opportunities to use your skills.

Can I work remotely or from the U.S.?

Yes! We’ve been doing remote work since before it was trendy, and have many open positions in the U.S. as well as overseas. Connect with a coach to learn more!

Can I serve if I have children?

Yes! We love families, and we’re committed to helping them thrive wherever they are planted. From infants in the workplace to high-quality education opportunities and transition orientations just for kids, we’ll be with you throughout your family’s entire journey. Watch the video below to hear Kelly Fetrow talk about how she and her husband, David, brought their four kids overseas.

Do I have to know a language other than English first or go to Bible school to serve with Wycliffe?

We have many roles that don’t require learning a second language or having biblical training before you join. For other roles, you’ll learn those things on the job. When you talk to a coach, they’ll help you determine if you should pursue further educational opportunities before serving with Wycliffe or if you’re ready to start serving now!
